Buddy Chat: A Child-Friendly Learning Companion
Children have a thousand questions while doing homework: "What does divide mean again?", "Why is that capitalised?", "Can you explain it one more time?" If you happen to have time and patience, wonderful. But often you have just come home from work, you are cooking, or you have already answered the same question three times. And some parents simply cannot help with certain topics anymore, because schools teach the material differently today.
That is what buddy chat is for: your child can ask Gennady anything about the task, as often as they like. Gennady answers in an age-appropriate, patient and encouraging way, like a tutor who never gets annoyed. Important to know: the chat is powered by AI, and your child can also ask general questions there, such as why the sky is blue. Buddy chat is available in 13 languages: German, English, French, Italian, Spanish, Polish, Romanian, Dutch, Portuguese, Hungarian, Greek, Czech and Russian. In all other languages, Gennady replies in German in the chat.
How buddy chat works

Ask a question
Your child types or speaks their question directly in the chat, for example about a scanned task or a word they do not understand.

Get an age-appropriate answer
Gennady answers in simple language that matches your child's age: short sentences, concrete examples, no jargon without explanation.

Ask again, as often as needed
Did not get it? Your child simply asks again. Gennady explains it differently, with a new example, without sighing and without time pressure.

Back to the task
If your child opens the chat from a task and asks about it, Gennady guides them step by step towards the solution with questions and hints. Gennady gives the answer only on the third try, so your child tries it on their own first.
Frequently asked questions
Is this not just ChatGPT for kids?
Buddy chat is also powered by AI. But Gennady is set up for 6 to 11 year olds: it answers in short, simple sentences, adapts its language to your child's age and is instructed not to take up topics that are unsuitable for children. Like any AI, Gennady can make mistakes.
Does my child chat with strangers?
No, never. In buddy chat, only Gennady the digital learning companion answers. There is no connection to other users, no friend lists and no way for strangers to contact your child.
What if my child asks for the solution?
If your child asks about a task in the chat, Gennady first guides them towards the solution with questions and hints. Gennady gives the answer only on the third try. General questions are answered directly.
Can I see what my child chats about?
Yes, in the app: the previous chat history is shown in buddy chat, so you can look through it together with your child. Gennady does not send reports to parents. A math question for parents (parental gate) protects onboarding, signing out, deleting the account and redeeming a voucher.
